Additional learning support
At Warilla North Public School, every student belongs. From the moment a child walks through our gates, they are valued, supported, and given every opportunity to thrive. We believe learning should be engaging, inclusive and accessible for all. Support does not require a formal diagnosis and can begin at any stage of schooling.
What makes us unique is the way we create an environment where students are set up for success. Our fair, consistent and predictable behaviour system, together with restorative practices, helps students build strong relationships and take responsibility for their choices. We also use play to support learning, and we structure the school day with outdoor breaks every 45 minutes to encourage physical activity, wellbeing and self-regulation. Families and community are partners in this journey, ensuring every child feels safe, connected and confident.
Support that fits your child’s needs
Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best. We work closely with families to design personalised plans and adjustments that reflect each child’s strengths and needs.
Support may include:
- teachers and support staff working in partnership with families (and students, if appropriate)
- specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- enrichment opportunities for high potential and gifted students
- small-group literacy and numeracy tutoring
- regular check-ins to review and adapt supports
In the classroom, adjustments might include:
- accessible spaces and assistive technology
- adapted resources and flexible approaches to learning
- alternative ways to show learning, such as oral presentations instead of written tasks
How we know when extra help is needed
We identify learning needs by:
- noticing changes in learning, behaviour or wellbeing
- reviewing assessment results and progress
- listening to parents, carers and students
Adjustments are always made in collaboration with families and reviewed regularly.
Learning and support team
Our learning and support team ensures help is available at the right time. They work with families, teachers and external services to:
- understand each student’s needs
- plan and monitor supports
- connect with specialist services if needed
The team may include learning and support teachers, school learning support officers, counsellors, psychologists, Aboriginal education officers, and teachers specialising in EAL/D or sensory support.
